These archives document the work of the Chambre de Commerce de Paris and Du Pont de Nemours' involvement with it. Included is a May 26, 1804, address of the Chamber of Commerce to Napoleon I, extracts of meeting minutes, report to the Ministére de l'Intérieur upon the establishment of the Bourse and Tribunal de Commerce (1804), petitions advocating commercial reforms and the deregulation of French industry, letters by merchants complaining about licensing regulations for tobacco and a letter by the Ministre de l'Intérieur setting forth the position of the Paris factors in the tobacco trade. Also included are reports on canal construction, the banking system, and copies of decrees forbidding the importation of products from British colonies into French ports (1803).

On March 16, 1803, Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours (1739-1817) was chosen as one of the fifteen members of the Chamber of Commerce as reinstituted by the First Counsul. At its first meeting on April 7, 1803 he was chosen as secretary. On June 10, 1807 Du Pont became vice president and held this position until he retired in April 1810.
